Jonjon79 13,358
I fancy a night away for me and 1 other to London. ....... we'll be going from Swindon to Paddington. I don't want to spend a fortune this close to Christmas and, I'd rather avoid all the over commercialised shite. At the moment, I'm thinking a show, dinner and somewhere nice to kip, all in one area so that that I'm looking at fairly short cab rides or walks to get around. ........ preferably somewhere that's proper London with proper people, if such a thing still exists Any advice will be appreciated

WILF 46,811
If you want real London people.......you need to look about 50 miles outside London ! Lol In fairness mate, there will be deal galore in the theatre district with a hotel etc, just go online. Then Just find the nearest nice place to eat......it’s honestly really easy. Whatever you do will be good, it just will. Enjoy yourself, it’s always a nice experience doing all that in them areas.

gnasher16 30,121
Your not going to be amongst proper Londoners in Central London your going to be amongst people like you....tourists If your starting off right over in Paddington why dont you get yourself a travelcard and jump on the underground to get about....or if your going to stick around West London the London Shell Company boat is nice grub round the corner from Paddington Station, could have a mooch about Kensington,Knightsbridge etc Natural History Museum,Science Museum if your that way inclined....have a windy walk round Hyde Park and slip down to Buck House.....for shows obviously you would need to go into the West End for the best choice but your on top of the Royal Albert Hall whatevers going on there at the moment....im not a fan of the theatre so dont blame me if its shit but The Cockpit theatre is near Paddington Station i know its showing this Back to Berlin which is supposed to be good....bit hard to say without knowing what you like to do/your budget etc....no accomodations going to be cheap but Lancaster Gate Hotel opposite the park will be reasonable. My advice is....dont try to do too much of everything or you,ll end up doing a lot of nothing......choose a few things you want to do/see and stick to that your not going to see all of London in a wknd Edited November 16, 2019 by gnasher16
pesky1972 5,270
The National Gallery is a must for me if you have never been. Free to get in to see what must be £billions worth of the world’s most famous artwork. No need to stick close to your digs, the tube is the best thing about London, cheap and a piece of piss to use. If you’re really stuck for entertainment you could stand on Oxford St and play spot the white man. Takes a while to play mind.
Jonjon79 13,358
Thank you for the recommendations, it's always appreciated from those that know ........ we're looking at going eary/mid December so, there's time to plan something nice. There's not really any thing specifically that we're into so, I imagine whatever happens will be a nice treat

Have to admit, that was my idea of absolute hell mate. Let my Mrs talk me into it a good few years back, it’s for the kids and all that stuff......it was f***ing horrible ! Everything I hate about shit, false consumerist Christmas’s with people Packed in like cattle ! We got like this London bus tour thing up there as part of some organised trip thing and in the way back there was this fat annoying scouse bird (just a paying customer like us) all dressed in her Christmas outfit singing Christmas songs and shouting “come on everybody, let’s get in the mood” I was done by then, I said “I’m in the mood alright.....in the mood to throw you out the f***ing window!” it was a pretty quiet journey home after that ! So to sum up.....I wouldn’t recommend it ! Lol lol Edited November 16, 2019 by WILF 1
