Bored hens are noisy hens, i lived in a downstairs council flat for 3 years and had 20 plus quail for eggs under a 18/6 light scheduele,, kept most of the block going on quail eggs, no one knew i had them till i offered them eggs

Had some barnevelders they were nice ,had ex battery  hens they were good , Brahma cockerels are quite quiet as they have a deepish crow.

As i live next door to a chicken keeper the biggest issue ain't the cockrel, it's the rats...

So, if your gonna do it, make sure you first buy plenty of Fenn traps and Youtube how to set em in tunnels around your boundarys....

Free range chickens seem to find nowhere else to shite only on your doorstep when they are warming themselves with the sun reflecting off patio doors. Also when your using half a bucket of wheat per day more than normal you have a rat problem. How many rats does it take to eat a half bucket in one day . Fowl draws rats better than the pied pipers flute.

I picked the feed up at night and got used to kid much they ate so that I would only put that rough amount out. So there was little left in the container .

years ago I had some rare breed Norfolk greys free roaming an they would come in the living room in the summer .
