Fitting swivels to hollow polymer stock?

Recommended Posts

Hi,In another thread I'm heading towards a Webley vmx in camo .22,but now have decided for the Webley vmx os or quantum?why do some call it quantum?I know os means oversleeved, are they the same model?

Back to original thread,I want to fit a sling and not a tactical type, one that uses swivels, now I know the stock is hollow,is this a problem, and I'd like to fit front swivel onto barrel, is this possible with the oversleeve?

Advice please?

Don't know about barrel or this particular stock but I fitted swivels to my Magtech.

It was a matter of making a small steel plate to spread the load, fitting a normal swivel and then filling the lot with "Sticks like shit" so there would never be a problem.

Not the best pics but you get the idea, rear stock was easier!

I emailed Webley and had a very quick informative reply, the diameter of the os barrel is 26.85mm.

Any idea where I could get a barrel fitting swivel to fit this?

was thinking would a wood fitting swivel be OK for the rear?

do I drill it smaller pilot and screw it in and put some aradite on thread,or drill same size as thread on swivel and aradite?

I'd do exactly what you've suggested doing. But others may have moved on with tech....

Cheers Joe,but which do you suggest?Smaller pilot hole or same as?

I know if the stock was wood I would drill smaller and screw up slowly, but means it polymer??

I don't want to really take the action out of the stock to fit rear swivel because I've read they are torqued at 2lb at manufacturing

I have just started another thread on where to buy such a front barrel swivel?

I haven't bought the gun yet,but I just do like to do all my homework first,I haven't long sold my BSA lightning se gas ram lol.

What did you do with rear swivel? Did you have standard swivel for wood stock?

Did you drill smaller pilot hole and screwed up slowly with some aradite on thread?

The gun I'm interested in has got a hollow polymer stock,I don't want to remove action out of stock to fit rear swivel because I've found out the stock screw is torqued at manufacturing at 2lb?

I didn't need to remove the action out of stock to fit rear swivel, just the front...I don't know your gun so who knows!

Rear stock was fundamentally the same as front,  took off the shoulder pad, drilled stock, used a small washer internally to spread load and Sticks like shit all over again after stud nut was screwed on.  Job done!

The studs were all bolt/nut types.  The Sticks like... was there to fill and totally lock everything into position so knocks/vibrations wouldn't cause the nuts to come undone.

The work shown was several years ago (about 7 I think) and everything is still holding well so I guess it works ok!
