harddigging 42
i think 5 would be the the earlyest i would breed a litter from a bitch and the stud of a simmular age Quote Link to post
Guest tawny
ive had pups out a twelve year old terrier, but i think it or they would and could have been better from a younger bitch. mind you some bitches age a lot faster than others, something to think about i say Quote Link to post
waz77 15
I recently had a pup out of a 9 1/2 yr old bitch, she only had the one but i think the timing of the mating played a part in that, she was one of those bitches who barely showed signs of being in season so getting it right was'nt as easy as normal. The pup went overdue by 6 days and was delivered c-section.So it can be done but more risk of problems occuring. waz77 15
Why thank you Tawny! Yeah she is still a fit healthy dog for her age, something that should be considered before you think of mating KevO, but if the bitch is fit and a good enough worker to consider breeding from then it might be worth a risk, just be prepared for possible vet bills for cesearian, altough you might have no problems at all.Has the bitch whelped before? Guest dale69
earthandhounds, each to thier own but its a very individual opinion you have fella and one that i wish you all the best with. But i would stay "well clear" of anyone purposely breeding out of a young, obviously untested bitch . Butler 396
I've seen dogs that look like world beaters at 18mths but have been pts as quitters by the time they were 3. So how you can say you know by 16mths if they are worth breeding from beats me But on the other hand some of the best terriers to enter a hole in the ground haven't started till 2 or 3 and maybe the odd one even later Quote Link to post
