Pic from around 1850 desert types

I find pictures of the dogs from the past interesting, especially the run of the mill hunting types. These were by a French artist visiting North Africa around 1850.

I've seen similar Sloughi types when trading in Morroco...tough old critters...

However, the jukels in the images, look to be more akin to the running dogs, from somewhere else...

They look more like modern day greyhounds.

I thought Sloughi type but have greyhound ears and almost muscle development.Maybe he got the human element right but finished the paintings back home using greyhounds as subjects.

I like those old prints of russian aristocratic women with borzois. Top tottie, both human and canine.

When I was a kid I used to walk a borzoi for an ' auntie' of mine( thats another story). She was a kind of collector of unwanted dogs and had been given the borzoi. I used to walk him inthe backstreets of dockland Manchester.. Packs of street dogs would gang up on him. It was almost as if they knew he was a toff.☺ He nailed a cat once and nearly killed a terrier like dog which had bugged him.
