shovel leaner 7,650
Since I started on this estate I have never shot a cat . When I’m out I see many cats . Not being a partridge shoot they don’t cause me any problems, I’ve had one get in a pen once and all it did was spook the birds and upset the pen , but no killing. I wouldn’t dream of killing someone’s pet . But whenever a cat goes missing I always get a call “ have you seen Tibbles “? Or “can you keep an eye out for my cat , I haven’t seen it for a few days”? I read into this that what they are really saying is “have you shot my cat “? The cats invariably turn back up , but I never get a call saying “panic over , it’s back “. The latest and most annoying incident was a few days ago , a woman who has more cats than is normal went on Facebook and basically accused me of shooting her cat , the cat turned up with a broken leg and other injuries that , the vet said looked like they were caused by a high powered rifle , and as she lives in the village surrounded by land I shoot on , it must be me . My boss took up my cause and the accusations have been taken down , but it’s a bit late and I have had piss take phone calls calling me a cat killer . It turns out it was hit by a car . But I haven’t yet had an apology. It boils my piss !!! 3 Quote Link to post
Stavross 15,910
That’s bang out of order, they don’t tend to make it back home with a .243 size hole in them, you would think a vet could tell the difference between a road accident and being shot, I f*cking hate cats and cat owners ( my wife has a cat ) 1 6 1 Quote Link to post
shovel leaner 7,650
It is bang out of order . I haven’t seen the cat or know what injuries it’s got . But the boss got the land agents solicitor to write her a letter to , prove it or shut up and there was obviously no proof . Nothing more has come of it but it was reported to the police , who haven’t contacted me . Quote Link to post
Born Hunter 17,783
It's a good job you're a decent sort and not the type who once tarred with shit thinks 'why not live up to it'. Talking about cats I remember one year we had a f***ing explosion of them. Christ I shot some head of feral cats that year and not really had one since. They were everywhere! 1 Quote Link to post
shovel leaner 7,650
I’ve no love of cats . I think there owners are delusional animal lovers who basically unleash a miniature tiger on the local wildlife/ bird population and choose to ignore the death and destruction their beloved pet causes. But I am also savvy enough to know the shit storm that killing pets causes . And also I think of the kids who love their pet moggy . So I am ultra switched on to making 100% sure that what I’m shooting is not a cat . It’s quite rural around here and I don’t think I get feral cats , I think they are mostly pets . But if I had a feral cat problem I would have no problem dealing with them . 2 2 Quote Link to post

I just meant that it's a silly game to throw unfounded accusations around because once a man is tarred with a bad reputation he has no reason to not do the things he was falsely accused of. For us it was just farm cats that got out of hand. Litters in barns and stables etc. 1 Quote Link to post
Sausagedog 7,381
Your not alone bro. I got that branding iron slapped on my arse years ago too. Last night I bumped into moggy. An old keeper mate told all the locals straight " if I see a cat in the woods it gets shot". Shooting a pet willfully is of course an offense. As cats are semi domestic and will roam, some over amazing distances, they can soon become a predatory pest. The problem is their owners. Oblivious most of them are. Oblivious to their cats murdering ways! 1 Quote Link to post

The problem with old school keepers is that you aren’t dealing with country people any more, who don’t want to offend the local landowner because they live in one of their cottages or work on the land . No , most are city dwellers who have made a pot of money and are looking to escape the our ethnically diverse cities. “No the poor can enjoy the cosmopolitan , ethnically diverse, multicultural inner city dream “. The same liberal do gooders who are no doubt remoaners , who have allowed our towns to be overrun.....rant over . You see , you can’t lay down the law to these people, because they are in their minds way above you . In my experience it’s better to stay on friendly terms with the locals . You never know who’s about and people can be vindictive, and I can’t be on the shoot 100% of the time . 5 Quote Link to post
