Which Calibre

Recommended Posts

Hi lads,

is there a calibre that you would recommend as an all round rifle that will deal with fox, crow, rabbit?

Need to be able to hit foxes at reasonable range so a normal .22 Lr probably won’t do.

Any advice welcome

I don’t know if any of you lads would be interested but I’ve just got myself a lovely pair of boots for when I’m out with the .17, for me if I’m not styling it right when out shooting then I might as

I love a .17 I find the ammo fits very well  in my handbag ?

I know mate but it would be a laugh ?  and I bet Walshie and stav will be up your way in a hour depending on traffic ??

HMR is perfectly capable on fox to 110-130 yards (some will say more) but I'm comfortable up to about 130, and easy on rabbit, crow etc.

Everyone has different requirements but the majority of my fox are under 100, so a HMR does it easily.

Need more info Wilf.

Do you want to eat any of your victims?

What kind of country?

What ranges do you expect to be shooting at?

I somewhat shocked by my colleagues!N Notone of them suggested a 22 wmr!

If you do go with a hmr get a swift like rifle, one that shoulders like a shotgun, those mice are twitchy little feller's!

I personally would go for one of the "Hornets" 17 or 22. Probably .17 if using factory ammunition. I definately wouldn't use a hmr  on fox. As sd says wmr is another contender, but for me the Hornets will cover everything with ease.

HMR edges it for me over the WMR.

My WMR is very capable and gives me a lot of confidence, if the question was fox then as a general response I would probably have said WMR.

Add rabbit and crow into the equation and the balance tips to HMR in my opinion!
