It’s that time of year again

Recommended Posts

Back at the shoot this morning for some hand feeding, as we approach the end of the season we have made a dent in them and there’s probably 3 main drives that will still produce good numbers, I was over one of the main drives known as the piggeries, it has a field of oilseed rape running along the side and I counted 43 in the field and could hear a lot more running around as I took the quad down the rides, so fingers crossed this coming Saturday will be another good day, with it been the last but one I would be expecting upwards of a 50 bird day, the last day is the 1st of February and that day is when a lot of people that don’t shoot get a go if they want to along with a few of the kids

after feeding I thought I’d have a squizzer hunt for an hour, after half hour walking around and with only one I gave up and headed for home

Nice pics  Stavross and good to see you’ve got a few left . We shot today and it was the first shoot of the year . We shot on the 28th December and they had a fortnight to pull back in . It was very windy today and and a bit of drizzle, but the birds were there and tucked up in the brambles , rushes and bracken . The syndicate were on form and shot well . We’ve only got one more day now ( next Saturday) and I guess they don’t want to leave any for the beaters. I was surprised by how many we shot , I decided to only shoot four drives instead of 5 which we usually do , but instead blank in more area and make a real good job and take a bit more time on just four . The gamble payed off and we broke the record for a January day . I now have my eye on a few days shooting myself  . I get a few invites from the shoots I load on and I get to fill my boots . I can’t believe the end of the season is almost upon us !!

It’s was wild up at the shoot today, the wind was enough to take your breath away, we shoot every other Saturday so they have plenty of time to come back in, I hope you enjoy and make the most of your invites, a little bit of a reward for for all the hard work that you put in the rest of the year, I’ll have a few week off at the end of the season to concentrate on the foxes and then make a start on the repairs and ride cutting and all the other stuff that the shoot members have no idea goes on to give them some fantastic, very affordable game shooting

Day 7 tomorrow and it’s got all the makings of another cracking day, the weather is saying -2 overnight and clear and bright for tomorrow, we still have birds about in a few of the drives in good numbers, it would appear that some have wandered in from the surrounding shoots as it’s very rare to see upwards of 40 birds out on the fields this time of year, we are that confident in the numbers that we have added another day, in all the time I’ve been in this shoot it’s the first time this has happened, we have cancelled days but never shot more then the 8
