T0ny 0
Hi there. Season will soon be here time to get the dogs fit. So does anyone have a slat mill for sale. Or give me any pointers on how to make one. Thanks Tony Quote Link to post
downsouth 7,143
No reason for dogs to be unfit through the summer. All they should need is work to get them in tip top condition. 5 Quote Link to post
T0ny 0
Just to give the terriers a bit of extra steam. They can never to too fit. Quote Link to post

Oh they can, well, they can certainly be over worked. Never had a digging dog that needed mill work, keeping out and about running the fields in the summer, don't let them get fat, then a couple of days graft come the season will have them on point.... gnasher16 30,025
A slat mill is for getting a dogs lungs wide open.....does a terrier ever need to redline like that 2 Quote Link to post
delswal 3,819
Apart from a certain breed for certain duties, there is no need for a slat mill, especially a working terrier 2 Quote Link to post

Aussie Whip 4,083
A ball hanging off a tree is enough exercise and running around the yard when not out.Only a little bushing Russell but he'll come home after hunting and do this all arvo. 1 Quote Link to post
T0ny 0
I dont have a yard to run my terriers in. I have to walk them on a lead. There is loads of livestock in my area. Just of of interest. Why would you put a pit/bull terrier on a slat mill and not a working terrier? Quote Link to post

Stick em in the car and drive to a country park, long bit of rope and put them on couples. Flirt pole is good too when your times limited and breaks the routine. 1 Quote Link to post

A pit needs to be in tip-top condition for what it does...........it needs pushing to the max, like gnasher said, it needs its lungs stretching for the work it does ie plenty of stamina. Your Patterdales borders or black and tans don't need that sort of intensive training, but hey if its what you want to do.........go for it Quote Link to post
