Gav 1,708 Posted August 6, 2019 Report Share Posted August 6, 2019 We're very lucky to have good numbers here. I've just been watching one for near on half an hour! I wish I knew how to work the wifes SLR, but alas I only can use a set of bino's. What a majestic bird in the wild, this thing must have been near on a mile high, circling looking for prey. As it came down some all the wee birds swarmed it, small and large alike, they seem to come together, protecting each other in numbers. The eagle could have taken one out, and had a feed, but just kept circling, seeming to ignore the wee pests. It must have seen something, or just dove to get a bit of peace, or rest and away to ground it went. I met one on the moor one time, I never even saw it untill it took off, I felt the wind from its wings on my face, the sound of its wings beating the air was something I won't forget. It inspires me when I watch them. Anyone thats ever seen one in the wild will appreciate what I'm on about! I'll try and get the wife to get some photographs! We have a few introduced white tails here, which are doing well but don't see them half as much as the goldens. Still a sight to behold! I was going to put this in Falconry section but didn't seem to fit reading other posts, A MOD can move it if they deem so fit? Squirrel_Basher 17,100 Posted August 6, 2019 Report Share Posted August 6, 2019 Saw one whilst stalking way up in the highlands few years back and truly was a majestic sight .Shot my stag and watched the eagle come down on the gralloch when we were half a mile away .Made the ravens look small and they are big birds here in Wilts . look forward to your pics mate . 1 1 Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Some very good wildlife photographers on here in the photography section (Pinnacle et al).., maybe they’d be able to give you a few tips etc. to get you started. The wife has a big fancy all singing, dancing Cannon500D EOS DSLR with all sorts of different lenses, she actually got some wild life snaps published on a calendar, so I'll try and get her on the case. I personally would like to see some nice photo's of Red Throated and Grey Throated Divers that you get on the high ponds, but have probable left by now.
