Look good fish, what tactics did you use bread flake on the surface?

They’re cracking fish to target aren’t they mate. Fight like stink when you get a good one. I’ve found mixing a little bit of mushy mackerel to the blended bread groundbait works well. ?

Cheers fl, yeah they go like f**k and fight right to the net.

Only issue I've had with mackerel is it attracts crab

I used to cut the crusts off a cheap white sliced loaf, freeze it and then put the slices in a blender then add a little powdered milk to make a cloud. The blended bread gets them interested and a piece of artificial bread on a 12 hook was the best bait. I fished it about 12" under a simple quill float and if there where weed rafts about I'd cast the float beyond the raft then draw it back so the float laid on top of the weed and the bread bait was hanging a few inches below the weed.

That was from Cleethorpes, Lincs. I've had bigger ones in harbours in Cyprus when night fishing, but the ones in France I've found only go about half this size.

FairPlay some crackers there must say only ever had a couple of goes for mullet and found them one of the most frustrating fish I,ve ever fished for worse than floater fishing for carp ??

I really enjoy it but I don't float fish just on the bottom like I would any other species

We blend the whole loaf as small as we can and use this to ground bait and then put a 2 hook patt over it

That's a nice fish, did you weigh it?

I didn't weight it. Possibly 4lb or thereabouts.

I saw mullet over 15lb in one of the Cyprus harbours. They only came in at night and I found out about them when talking to an Egyptian long liner when I gave him a lift to the the town where our apartment was. I'd been fishing near to his boat and we got talking about the swordfish and tuna he caught offshore. On a good night he'd land 2 tonnes of fish. Then he mentioned that there were mullet to over 9 kilos in the harbour. He had caught one that big on a hand line and had seen bigger, but he said they only came in at night usually following the fishing boats in to feed on the scraps they threw overboard. I went down a few times over the years and managed to catch some around 9lb  - 10lb and lost some bigger fish in the mooring ropes. I didn't have the tackle over there to deal with fish that size. I had carp to 20lb on the same tackle - no problem, but mullet are different matter.

They are a fascinating fish and I love fishing for them. There is a town out here in France called Marans. It is an old inland port very much in the same manner as Boston in Lincolnshire. At this time of year the canals and creeks will be swarming with mullet up to around 2 or 3lbs. I'll be going over to have a pop at them next month.
