Nell 1
Got one here thats fawn, all of the litter were fawn and so were both parents. The sire was a 3/8 5/8 and the mother was a first cross. The majority I have seen are fawn, but to be honest Lucky yours was the first other colour I have actually seen, although I have heard of different colours, some of them were not true Wheaten crosses, they had a bit of bull in them. how old is your wheaton cross Nell ? any pics ? I will try and get a few up later on, I don't actually own the dog, although I do spent quite a lot of time with it when it come to taking it out etc, introducing it to it's first taste of quarry etc, basically to make sure it gets entered in the right way more than anything. I originally spent time tracking down the "right sort of dog" for a young lad to get a decent start in the world of running dogs, this lad only ever comes out with me and wanted a decent dog after he had a little difficulty with his first attempt at bringing a Lurcher pup on, probably due to inexperience more than anything. He is turning out a decent dog and if the lad continues what's been started with it then he should have a decent and more than capable dog on his hands, I will get some pics up though. ASME IX 1
the majority of first cross wheaton/greyhounds i have seen have been fawn in colour....so is the fawn gene stronger or is the colour of the greyhound used a major factor aswell ? hi the reason most pups come out fawn is because wheaton terriers are that colour, there colour gene is not diluted with any other colours, were as greyhounds are not just one colour, there colour genetics are made up of different colours ie black/white,brindle white ,fawn/white,blue brindle ect. i used to have a first cross wheaton/greyhound x first cross bull/greyhound,the father was pied black/white(bull greyhond) and the mother (wheaton/greyhound)was the typical fawn colour ,but all 10 pups in the litter was identical in colour!!! pied black/white broken coated .the answer to the question i guess is that the offspring will throw to breed of dog with the least colour variation in there genetic make up asme9 Quote Link to post
