Sorry to bombard you with questions fred90.......I love little grafting lurchers that hunt hard even when there’s not much about.....would you recommend one if you were only to have one dog for hunting hedgerows and woodlands ...sort of one for the pot.....and would you go half or 3/4 for this? cheers Quote Link to post

I am going three quarters to add a bit more pace but will I lose a bit in nose and cover work? only one way to find out. I wouldn't have anything else for general mooching about. then again I have no interest in anything bigger than a rabbit or pheasant. Edited July 7, 2019 by fred90 4 Quote Link to post
Allan P 1,150
I’ve seen 3 Beddy whippets work, 2 weren’t really up to much if I’m honest and severely lacked pace and couldn’t keep up with a rabbit never mind catch one. But the last one opened my eyes was a little demon working cover but I can’t say how it was on the lamp although the guy I was with said it was great and if he said that I 100% believe him. I agree with you and I don't want to start a argument but lamped rabbits are easier. by this I mean how many times have you seen lamped rabbits turn back into the field from hedge or stonewall? in the day they go through the hedge or over the wall. all you top lampers don't shoot me I am not knocking your dogs. I am probably over thinking things as usual. Edited July 7, 2019 by Allan P Quote Link to post
micky 3,325
Though I said it was the best Rabbiting dog I have seen doing that type of work it is the only one I have ever seen that's been any good many years ago a lad had a big Black Whippet that he thought was the best in the World and when it was tested it was about as good as the British Heavyweights 1 Quote Link to post

Mainly mooching , lamping and bit of Ferreting. Quote Link to post

Ones a bed whip x colllie whip greyhound 19 inch, others a spaniel x lurcher 22 inch. Plenty of dogs for you to pick from that’ll do above. 1 Quote Link to post

Daytime rabbits hunted bolted and caught by one dog has to be the hardest form of rabbiting, but like bushing with a couple of dogs I find the most enjoyable......lots of missed rabbits and coming home usually with not much...but who cares.
