there are allot more efficient ways of controlling rabbits blacky aren't there, I have never caught a hundred with a dog but I did it ferreting loads of times.

I didn't catch a hundred last season mate but I had a right good time falling over and gerrin lost

Thinkning about it properly t c, I think lurchers were far less common than people imagine, and only really started getting popular in the 1970's. How long have people in this country been poaching for, and probably about 90% of it without a dog at all?

A old fella near me never kept a lurcher snaring and trapping was his mainstay work. When i look back it was a opporntunity missed as i only went a few times out ferreting with him in the 80s. i could have learned a fair bit from him but was too intrested in seeing dogs run. He only ever kept springers.

My father told me that when he was a teenager most rabbiting was done with traps (gin traps I assume) & ferreting. His dog was always a Springer x whippet or greyhound that he would buy from a man in Nottingham & have delivered by train. Right up until he died he kept  Springer x Collie & always reckoned they were the best dogs for ferreting.

Couldn't tell you mate really. But I'd say, although a long time, not as often as people think
