The dog and I sat under a sittie tree last night waiting for a crow. Took ages for them to return but when they did it just so happened a friend phoned me and I missed my chance. It was my fault as I texted him after hearing his shots in the distance.

Anyway, as it started to go dark I moved out of that wood to another on slightly higher ground.

From there and after a while I heard a Vixen bark in the wood I was just in! Then one more bark!

Eventually she emerged and crossed field to my right and out of range.

So this morning I was in a good spot by 4:30.

Never saw her. No pheasants betrayed her location so after two hours I went walking.

I never took a camera and I should of. I could of photographed hare's, willow warblers and sand martins!

If that wasn't bad enough I found tracks where a fox had ambushed a rabbit on fresh sand. It was very fresh. Possibly an hour before!

Then, just to make things worse I found a fresh ball of hen pheasant feathers, just been nabbed, minutes before I got there!

The hunt is on! This one has been dodging me for nearly two years,  she has to go! If I don't my hens won't have any broods.

Yep.

I did well this winter, a few vixens and about five local dogs.

I screwed up on one and there is this one that I am confident that I have not educated!

I only see her occasionally in the lamp and when I do it's a fleeting glimpse and she is gone!

I have an idea where she is hiding out and her giving voice last night says she has cubs there too. I will keep a distance but watch of an evening and early am when I can.

The cubs will be on meat now, it's been quiet for a couple of months now and I wondered where she got to! Now she is hunting again. The cubs will surface when the grass is cut later on.

Some years, I do well I get some wild pheasants. Sometimes I get curlews but that's not been for a while.

If it's not fox's it's badgers !
