I'd also like to add, don't listen to 90% of the shit people tell you regarding weight training, especially a steroid head that doesn't compete, we all know the types lol, and like I said in the beginning, when things start getting harder, or you find it difficult to complete your session, add an extra day of rest between sessions. Don't try to increase the weights your lifting too rapidly. And keep things progressing By the way, not suggesting anyone who's posted on this thread is a steroid head lol Edited April 10, 2019 by shaaark
terryd 8,595
I train every 3 day so i have two rest. One thing I have noticed training at home dumb bells for pressing and flies etc has made much more progress than bar bell

As gnasher, I think, has already said, using dumbells brings more of the ancilliary muscles, together with the main muscle group, into play more than barbells

No, I hope I don't come across as being big headed here mate, and am not telling you what to do, but doing a 5x5 routine is maybe a little advanced if you're just getting into it, as it encourages you to push to your maximum, which you shouldn't be doing yet for a while really. There's absolutely loads of information etc about training out there, but most of it doesn't really help someone new to training, and without knowing you pretty well, no--one apart from yourself, will know what's going to suit you as regards training frequency etc etc. It'll be alot of trial and error to begin with, and I would say again, if you can, get hold of stuart mcrobert's books and read/study what he says, and apply that to your training

terryd 8,595
As a beginner what has helped a lot after numerous youtube vids is hitting the muscles direct and really focus on the muscle concerned. Surprising how little weight you need to nacker it out. Rather than blasting a big weight or trying and using half your body to do it. Just my findings so far oh and the other finding is high protein diet really annoys the wife

Builds good strength and covers the main compound lifts. Your not pushing max every time either you start well below your max slowly adding weight and usually hit a new max on each lift after a good few weeks/months. Perfect beginner routine imo. https://www.bodybuilding.com/content/is-stronglifts-5x5-the-right-training-program-for-you.html Looks good, got a more simplified version of it in one of stuart mcrobert's books. Still, looks good though
