bedo 59
Brilliant I’ve made a little metal cross that sits on top so I can stick a little frying pan on and cook at same time

The problem with the ally kettle is that it leaks if you use it to transport the water inside the KK. I don't have the same problem with the stainless one. I use the hollow chimney part to hold a tin with things like T-Bags, coffee ad also cutlery, flint steel and fire lighting stuff otherwise I could carry the water in a plastic bottle inside the chimney. Its a bit of a pain having to carry a separate bottle for the water.
Nicepix 5,650
Here are mine. I use them like Russian Dolls to maximise the space. The large ally one with a plastic food flask containing tea, coffee and any stuff I might need for cooking. In the pan are the knife & fork kit in the green wallet, the pan handle and some fire lighting stuff;- cotton wool mixed with vaseline and sugar inside a 35mm film tub with a piece of bike inner tube around it. That will get a fire started in any weather. Then there are the standard grill plates and chimney pan supports that come with the cook set plus a fine mesh grid that can be used to sieve liquids and also helps stop things like toast burning on the standard grill. And a metal cup with folding handles. Everything fits up the chimney. The smaller stainless one hasn't been used as much and the cook set is frankly too small for anything but emergencies. Same principle; the plastic inner is from one of those insulated mugs and the fire lighting stuff is carried inside the pan. Because the stainless one doesn't leak I can carry water inside the kettle. With the ally one I can't carry water for any length of time as it weeps out of the bottom. It didn't used to. But the kettle has had a lot of use. 4
mole trapper 1,693
Great post as usual Clive I bought one last year, bugger is I put it in the loft and forgot about it till I saw this don't even know which I bought. So a trip to the loft tomorrow. I have a fishing trip planned for two weeks time which will start with two hours up and three down on the Bristol channel near avonmouth, then down to Weymouth to fish the night tide for squid etc, few pints and a meal, snooze in the van, then back to the land of cream and honey. I think the Kelly will fit in nicely in this road trip.
Nicepix 5,650
Fried squid rings on the Kelly Kettle! Sounds like heaven. Break an egg into your cup and whisk it. Put some flour into the pan lid along with any pepper or seasoning you prefer. An inch or less cooking oil in the pan and a couple of charcoal briquettes in the fire to maintain a steady heat while you are cooking. Use a fork to dip the squid rings in the egg and then in the flour. Drop it in the hot oil and while it is cooking get another ready and drop it in. You should be able to keep a couple at a time frying. If I'm ever going where there will be a shortage of dry wood I always take some charcoal briquettes in a plastic bag. Saves a lot of hassle. Also means not having to stoke the fire every ten minutes when cooking a stew whilst fishing.
