Yup

I know there are still 1,000s of northerners that vote Labour just because their dads and grandads did, and there is still the diehard knuckle draggers that would vote for a monkey with a red rosette

Don't assume ALL northerners support Labour gnash . I despise them along with a now growing army of others

But I don't know many up here who want Corbyn to be PM, .......his support is the champagne socialists and Islington lefties and of course London is now the Labour power base !

University Professors, students unions, lefty journalists and the media; these are the people who want Corbyn and his Marxists in power, not the working class north. If there was a viable choice, Labour would wither and die in the north, but the Miners strikes, pit  and steelworks and shipyard closures are too fresh in the memory for people to even contemplate voting Tory, UKIP blew their chances and the LibDems stand on Brexit means the northern leavers will never vote for them.

A sad state of affairs when there is nobody worth voting for !

Probably form an anti Brexit party though I believe the Tory defectors will go back to their party once Brexit is over.

Just a few observations........for what my opinion is worth !

This feels different to the formation of the SDP - at their height, they had 28 MPs, but only one was a former Tory. I expect a small number of Tories and another handful of Labour MPs to cross the floor yet.

The one thing all 11 have in common is their Remain/People's Vote stance. The 3 Tories are now beyond the control of the party whips, but they were always going to try to stop Brexit, regardless of which bench they sit on, so the maths hasn't changed all that much for the Maybot.

Most of the Labour defectors have consistently backed BrexitRef2, and would probably have been deselected and replaced by Corbyn disciples at the first opportunity.

By rights, the LibDems should have picked these people up, but they are still tainted by the coalition, so the only option left open to the 11 was to form their own group.

Do they have a long term future ? Personally, I doubt it !

As you said, the 3 (former) Tories are most likely to end up back in the party, while the Labour 8 have absolutely no future, while Corbyn maintains his stranglehold........ but once we leave the EU, the group will have no relevance anyway (as UKIP found out !).

I expect the group to turn its focus on delaying Article 50, which buys some time to push for BrexitRef2..........

The two groups that have jumped have different reasons but they all want  us to stay in the eu. I don't understand this labour anti semitism thing .  What's all that about ? The conservative group are just odd. Do the parties cut their support ? Are they told ..... clear your desk, can't use our party offices, stationary, phones, secretary's, organisation. In fact sling your hook? Your de selected?

A little insight into the "anti-Semitic thing"..........

One of the reasons Joan Ryan joined the new group was the appalling abuse that the likes of Luciana Berger have been subjected to. At PMQs today, Chairman Jeremy said that anti-Semitism has no place in his party and condemned it wholeheartedly................meanwhile, Young Labour posted this tweet.........

This new party has the distinctive whiff of Gina Miller and her sugar daddy soros. It'll be interesting to see who the backers are...blairites rise again, I guarantee the cnut is in the background somewhere.
