I have to keep worming them with Darontal, every month. But, if i freeze them for 2 to 3 weeks, they dont seem to get any worms. Quote Link to post
frost 4 Posted January 4, 2008 Report Share Posted January 4, 2008 I have been boiling them for years and never had a problem but i would never feed unskinned raw rabbits as there are too many dangers of worms;parasites and of blockages caused by the fur but then again its each to their own does anyone know if feeding rabbit is bad or good as they are free and i have more than i need for the pot. would the age of the dog matter as i have an adult and a puppy. During the season my dog/dogs are fed almost exclusively on rabbit,I skin them and put them in the freezer for 3 weeks[it takes 21 days to kill all the parasites].They are taken out to defrost then fed raw. Cooking can make the bones brittle is time consumingand there's no benefit,so for me it's raw all the time. Quote Link to post

TOMO 26,686 Posted January 4, 2008 Report Share Posted January 4, 2008 i had a mate 20 year ago , who's lurcher had to be put down , eating cooked rabbit . the bones got stuck in the gut and the vet couldn't do owt. for years though i always boiled mine and the dogs got half each evry day, one day the , one would get the front end the next it got the back end. i still do the same now , but feed raw, guts out and skinned but the feer left on. snoopdog 1,256 Posted January 4, 2008 Report Share Posted January 4, 2008 i find feeding whole carrcass wether it be rabbit or hare causes disruption in the kennel ..unless fed sepratly ...how the fook do you spell sepretly ..mental block .. ...anyway when i do feed them the odd carrcass i do feed them as they come skin guts the lot ....worm them regular and you will have no probs ...this is my opinion .....ive been having a few problems with the pup taking the piss out of the other to dogs e.g pinching there food and going for them ...anyway i was out for a mooch in the snow yesterday and found a hare ....so this morning a gave it to the pup for somthing to chew on and my terrier who the pup annoys to the limits went over for a peak at what the pup was doing ....and the pup 4 month old locked on to the terriers face who is the boss of the kennel ......problem solved the terrier gave it a good hiding .. about time to i like them all to know there pecking order from a young age .... ......the pup has know got a sore lug hole but ive been waitng abd wanting this to happen for a while ......anyway thats off my chest so yes if you are feeding rabbit i give the the whole lot ....but sepratley .......all the best snoop .....just to state when i feed the in there bowls theres no disruption at all and can feed them all together ..... Gaz_1989 9,539 Posted January 4, 2008 Report Share Posted January 4, 2008 What else do you feed your dogs on? when ive got my lurcher i will definitely be feeding him rabbit (skinned, frozen 21 days, defrosted and fed raw). Can a dog live off just rabbit? dont they need anything else? a biscuit of some sort? Also what about pups? can they eat just rabbit? and how old can you start feeding them whole raw rabbits?
