dai dog 11
now its well known that a lot of dogs that want to, will, catch deer! but a lot of these dogs do so, by the deer panicking, & bouncing off fences etc. who, pre ban had dogs, to catch, lets say roe with a long slip on open land, without any obstacles, in the day? what way were the dogs bred & how tall? a question ive often wondered! lucky 578
the most consistant daytime "Roe dogs" i've seen were all mostly made up of saluki and greyhound....they were coursing dogs but often knocked the odd deer over when the oppurtunity arose... Quote Link to post
hound dog 19
Good deer dogs should be able to take deer on open ground not just rely on them bouncing off hedges or fences. Quote Link to post

Butler 396
Must of been watching the wrong ones imo, for daytime work you won't beat a dog with a good percentage of saluki blood. Quote Link to post

Is that a saluki bred dog in your picture? Yes he was a saluki blooded dog probably the best single handed deer dog i've ever owned or seen run.
