Blackbriar 8,569
I had a heart attack 11 years ago, and the experts put me on a cocktail of medications, including statins, ACE inhibitors and beta blockers. I immediately took the advice to stop smoking, and haven't touched one since. After a few years of thinking of myself as a sick old man, and suffering side effects of several drugs - even though I wasn't 50 ! - I thought "feck this" and slowly withdrew each medication, starting with the statins. I got myself more active and, even though I'm overweight, I can walk for miles and I even do a bit of cycling (albeit at a fairly sedate pace !) I've had no recurrences, I haven't taken a tablet for 4 years, I'm still here and I'm still going reasonably strong ! It's not all doom and gloom !

cragman 2,788
I had my works mot in December. Pleased to say everything was fine for my age. 59, 60 next week. Cholesterol was 2.4, which, I was told by the assistant was excellent and weight spot on. I cut back on the sugar since September after finding and reading a book on diabetes in a charity shop. Lost about 20lbs after letting my weight creep up. Back on track now and I’ll stay there. A guy in work asked recently what tablets I take and when I said none, he didn’t believe me! Lots of exercise and I have a job that means I’m outside in the countryside everyday, so why not take advantage? I could drive around but I walk. Feel better, less tired and more energy. Good luck guys. If you have type 2, you can treat yourself by eating and exercising correctly, tablets only ease it, not cure it. 2
