I may be wrong but i thought the round begins to drop as soon as it leaves the barrel..obviously not dropping as much for the first 50 yards as it does between 50 - 100, but still dropping... otherwise the rate at which it drops depends on what your shooting... ie a yellowjacket is a powerfull load so will drop less over a given range than a sonic etc..

Gravity acts upon a bullet, the moment it leaves the barrel. What you mean, is will a short barrel mean that the bullet has less velocity? the short answer is no. A rimfire cartridge will burn all its powder behind the bullet inside 9" of barrel, therefore, any longer will actually cost velocity as friction decelerates the bullet in the bore. However, a 9" barrel is not practical or legal, so most people settle for around 16".We sell a very good carbon fibre barrel that is only 12 and 1/2" long, and its one of the most accurate barrels available today. In practical terms you cant tell the difference, apart from long barrels require excellent follow through technique, short barrels are a little more forgiving of bad shooting practises.
