Advice needed; good vet/bone man near Devon

Hi folks, 5 year old lurcher bitch has dislocated front outside toe. Toe has been popped back, rested and apparently healed over about four weeks but same thing has happened again. I’m prepared to write off rest of season now and rest her but apparently this can happen again and again. So I’d like to speak to a specialist about options, possibly amputating the toe, removing the nail etc. Any advice/phone numbers for a specialist in or near Devon would be much appreciated. Thanks.

B worth finding out if local greyhound track knows some one.im sure I read a post by Phil Lloyd about going to see bone man in Devon .

 As u said it's best to stop the season and get it fixed if u can .

Hi bud I've asked on here before Devon isn't the best place for bone men think Swindon is closes for a good bond man. Maybe take the toe off read from blokes who have had the dogs toe off they still run and dosnt effect them

I believe it's sandra osbourne in honiton who worked on the greyhound tracks in australia.

I would REST the dog for at least 6 weeks...NO running around, keep on lead,..just steady road walking...

Thanks Phil, that’s good advice. I will speak with Sandra too but I imagine her advice will be along similar lines. Had a very helpful chat with Whitevanman earlier and got some useful pointers from him as well.  Great to have the support of good people on this forum.

Bone radiol rubbed in with a tooth brush 4 days on 3 says off & rest of season lead walks only. Atb

I had the same injury on my bitch but inside toe on back foot. It was forever popping out even after a season off and months of lead walks.

In the end I had the toe amputated from that joint by Dan Donahugh. He's by heathrow so no where near you but he is bloody good. She had no problems with it since. 

I think she was lucky with it being inside rear for though, I wouldn't think they do as much work as outside front.

Thanks, bone radiol has been mentioned to me a few times now, seems to be good stuff,  can’t hurt to try so I’ll get some from eBay and give it a go. Will be speaking to Sandra Osbourn too after Christmas and following whatever advice she gives me.

Hi Tyla, thanks for sharing your experience of this. Out of interest how long after the amputation was your bitch back up and running? Did the procedure involve repeated visits to the vets afterwards?
