This lad was owned by a very good mate saw him take a good number of fallow

Saw a good few of this cross on deer, once they have a hold of them there not letting go ,this bitch was the same cross and she put a few away pre ban

The fastest of lurchers will be straight lined by a fallow at some point in their career if they run enough of them.

How tall and what build weight did a lurcher need to be to take deer back in the day?

This tall and that build ?. Back in the day, same as now really I suppose, people weren't that bothered really as to what 'exactly' was in their deer hunting dogs. As I've said, and as far as I know, it was more a case of 'he/she's a good dog' let's mate em. Then the resultant offspring would then have been tried, but not always , on a few species of deer. They were still good dogs, even though some were never tried on deer ?

Was bigger better for deer back in the day?

I see it like this all things being equal a good big un will out perform the smaller types but I'll say this there his a limit where outrageous size becomes disadvantageous  those that have the experience know seen deerhound type killed by fallow .like I says herding types were the best I have seen and I have seen a few old types and modern breeds the herders reign supreme.atb bill

Just keep polishing them Albergs to keep them in good order they will last you years .

Best boots I have ever had mate am onto me second pair, the uppers no problem never leaked even though I never polished them that much, I've wore the soles out in a year though. Just as cheap to buy a brand new pair of army issue off ebay as it is to get them resoled.

Once they start getting over that they don't seem as versatile, bit of a tumble and a few forward rolls their not up and back in action as quick IMO those few seconds can make all the difference.
