Kaisackett 8
How do you guys think the cross would work out and which breeds do you think would make the best crosses? Quote Link to post

Str 793
My mate had a springer spaniel x whippet which recently died age 10,for a first cross I couldn’t believe how much it had thrown to the whippet ,only give away was the ears which were smooth but large .it was very keen at hunting anything,it was too much for my mate who’s not that mobile has he’s getting on in years. Could have been a very good dog in the right hands. Quote Link to post
tank34 2,364
Seen two spaniel x greyhound nice looking dogs but one no good at anything lad had on trial was sent back , other one was a pet lived on a garden centre was working on dog got a rabbit or two most days left em in door way for his owner Quote Link to post
bird 9,969
the lab x grey , they reckon makes good x , good nose, good coat/feet , and good brain , good in the finding stuff, and be good in the lamp, but suppose like others xs thats not conventional so not popular there not being bred .? shame really as other breeds have lot to offer lurcher lines . 2 Quote Link to post
Penda 3,341
German wire hair pointer x greyhounds are handy dogs especially if your hunter terrain that calls for a dog that has to use it's nose a lot and rely more on scent before it's eye sight 3 Quote Link to post
Kaisackett 8
Thank you all I am looking into lurchers and will hopefully be able to start hunting once I find some land and get my dogs trained a little better. The dogs I have now are a golden retriever, Labrador retriever and a Brittany. So I guess another question I have is would a Brittany Sighthound cross be any good? Quote Link to post
Kaisackett 8
yea I am looking for a pup but it is harder to find lurchers in my area. And I was looking to add a little size and speed to my Brittany’s Quote Link to post

Sack that. Where are you that is so hard to find a lurcher? Cos believe me even driving 6 hours each way for a pup an paying a few hundred quid will be a hundred times less stressful an easier than breeding a litter I live in the states so lurchers are a little bit harder to find at least they have been for me Quote Link to post
gnipper 6,521
I would say don't use brittany but if you're used to the brittany as a breed then maybe it'd be ok for you. Mine was a completely deranged animal but then that could be from lack of socialisation before 16 weeks or whatever she was when I got her. She was wired to the moon. 1 1 Quote Link to post
Kaisackett 8
That’s a beautiful dog! I will probably do as you guys and others say and buy a pup before I ever do any breeding I just need to keep looking until I find a pup. And I think my Brittany is a little different he is actually super clam until his outside then he tends to be more of a handful but that’s because he wants to run and hunt not walk on a leash. 1 Quote Link to post

And did she hunt well or was she just to crazy? Quote Link to post

Brittany x whippet greyhound She was ok out in the field but impossible to live with, I gave her to a lad at work as she drove me mad. Quote Link to post
