woz 260
after reading about all the dogs getting stolen im shocked that more of you dont have your dogs chipped...how many of you do??? think that for £15 its a bargain..i know it wont stop the dog going missing but if they end up in the pound you will get em back and even if you sell the dog on its tranferable.... saying that i had a dog escape and the bloody vet hadnt registered the dog with the data base....... Guest SJM
£15 is a rip off, I do it for £5 which is the cost of the chip, vets and qualified chippers should really be doing all they can to encourage people to have their dogs done by keeping the price as low as possible, I have heard of some vets charging £30 for what is essentially a 30 second procedure, the longest part is filling out the paperwork Try your local council or dog warden first before you shell out any cash, as some councils run schemes where the dog warden will come to your house and do it for free. I know North Lanarkshire council operates this scheme, I am sure other counties will do it too Edited January 1, 2008 by SJM Quote Link to post

Some people do illigal activities and a chipped dog could get them caught :whistling: Of course we are all law abiding citizens on this forum Quote Link to post
Guest SJM
I know what you mean but theres no point not having your dog done just because you heard one bad tale Its true, there are pounds which operate under council license across the country which are a bit "dodgy" to say the least, the dogs come in, and are shipped back off out again as soon as you can say bobs your uncle, often with no sort of temperament testing or assessment, usually for a fairly high price tag and 99% of the time with no sort of backup, just the old "bring it back if you dont like it and you can pick another one" These arent really proper rescue centres which have thorough procedures for checking stray dogs, not like the SSPCA or Dogs Trust. They definately do check for chips because I have been contacted in the past when my details have come up as the emergency person incase the owner of the chipped dog cant be contacted. I like to have mine tattooed and chipped just to be on the safe side Quote Link to post
