He was what he was.  Remember his family read what people say on sites like this. His son being a hunting man.  I was always told never to speak ill of the dead. Yet so many authors need to

I suffer with depression myself, and it is a bitch to deal with on many days. Sometimes even getting out of bed to face the world is more than hard work. Not going to go into it too much, as there are

Yea he told a tall tale and maybe dramatised the truth, but let's be honest I haven't read a book that wasn't. Say what you like he lived the way he wanted and I suspect like me as a kid most got

Remember reading in his books that he hardly slept and an old mate telling me when him and Barney from Mexborough once called at his house when he lived at Rotherham and knocked on his door to no avail and looked through the window to see him fast asleep in the chair and he could not be woken.lol

I was more a full on blatant theft, no panic, easy does it, straight into my school rucksack and nonchalant saunter out of the door with my prize, plummer would turn in his grave at all the lost sales and royalties ?

Thank feck for that I thought it was only me that nicked library books back in the day.lol

I grew up like most lads hungry for information on the only thing i cared about ,the outdoor life ,and Plummer the only writer about that I remember with a knowledge of mixed fieldsports ,seemed to be the man to follow .

I've read most if not all his scribbles and still got many of them here now .

It wasn't until I subscribed to EDRD that I had any inkling of the man he really was and it left a bad taste for sure .

So what happened between him and Harcombe? Did he slate the digging lads or something?

Plenty of digs at any 'working' dog man in articles.

Looking back, he put himself on a pedestal & a fragile one at that. I met him once & found him very defensive. I think he  realised & in a way rectified it. He wouldnt of liked the internet thats for sure?

Read most of his books when i was lot younger & tbf i enjoyed most of what i read at the time. He saw an opportunity to make a few quid & took it. He wrote when there was very little written about hunting/ lurchers etc. Soon realised it had to be taken with a pinch of salt. Don’t think for one minute I could of toletated his company though.
