Got him !

Been after this one since the start of the season , big animal no head , I’ve had him in the scope about four times but he’s either been in front , behind or I’ve had no backstop ..this morning his luck run out .Just in the edge of the wood with about twenty five doe’s and fawns with him he  presented a shot at eighty yards through the trees ..how he was holding doe’s with his headgear I don’t know , I’ve watched him several times chase of better bucks purely down I think  to body weight ..

his right antler was broken of the other side was malformed..I thought he was going to do for me carrying him out , gralloched with head and feet of he went 156lb in the chiller..

Very nice, trying to figure where ya shot him though? Upper neck shot? Some good eating there anyway, I can't even get out till new lease drawn up for change in our syndicate, hate waiting, but we gained more land.

The Fallow are more or less finished rutting now but the bucks are stinking with testosterone. I asked my game dealer if he wants them and he said he does , but personally I find the meat too tainted . If you want some good eating take a smaller doe .... delicious

You can get carried away sometimes and forget that the hard work starts when you’ve got to somehow get the thing back to the chiller . I’ve still not learnt my lesson. Dropped a pricket last week in the middle of a wood and nearly gave myself a hernia getting it out . I’ve got a small block and tackle now which I use to get them on the mule , which is a life saver and I’m sure my bollocks are only in the right place because of it .

I’ve had one of these for the last few years ..

When I bought this pully it was about £14 ...it came with a gambrel but I prefer the smaller type , this and a length of climbing rope saves me no end of struggling , you can see the self locking bar in the top picture . The big stuff I normally lower down straight on to the quad once I ve gralloched them . I don’t know what possessed me to carry that big buck out , must have been a rush of blood to the head  , I won’t be doing it again any time soon

That’s almost exactly the same as mine . Best thing I’ve got for that job . I’m not a small guy and I really struggle to get them on a mule without it . I used to lift the head on the back and tie it there , then climb on the back and heave with all my strength , slipping over and sliding about , it must have looked ridiculous.

With the prickets and bucks I used to hook there heads on the quad rack then stand on the back and pull them up , quite a few times I ended asreover head and back to square one .. the doe’s were never a problem I could just pick them up and put them on .. this getting old is a pain !

Other end of the scale this pricket was only 58lb in the chiller , another one that needed going .

Hi Sussex,  i have built a hoist on the front of the quad, makes life much easier, for me the hardest part is getting them on the chiller rail on my own,

I toyed with the idea of a hoist on the quad but opted for a box on the front that has the ropes ,pulley gambrel and knives in , if necessary I just tow them to the nearest tree , set up and when gralloched lower them on the back of the quad ..
