A laugh for Mitch

Recommended Posts

You will love this Mitch and then tell me ' I TOLD YOU SO'

Out on Sunday night after some rats to test the 110k out on when after about 40mins, the Nitesite Viper screen would not switch back on, dead as a dodo. When I got back, I tested each part with my Wolf unit and found it was the screen only, not the camera, battery or IR illuminator. A phone call to Nitesite today and a chat with a bloke called Andrew who I think is one of the directors then on to a smashing chap in service called Sam who I have spoken to before. There is NO doubt in my mind that the boss man told him what to quote me

£164 to replace the screen only.......................................FCUK ME.................................we are talking about a product that would cost about £10 on ebay. I WILL find out what spec to get and by hook or by crook, I will replace it myself or with someone's help who knows what the hell to do.

I know you will have a good chuckle at this Mitch but I am shafted as I need a tv screen nv because of the problems with my right eye.

Not a fcuking happy Phill

ouch!

My entire diy nv setup was a lot less than that and if I break my screen it's a tenner for a new one and 10 mins to attach.

Is it possible to strip it and retrofit a reversing camera screen into it the same size?

If not and you decide to build your own here's a pic of mine if it helps you think what to do. It's basic but works a treat. A website called printed vision sells good stuff too my mate has just got a top notch camera mount from them all 3d printed.

Iv never seen a nitesite viper, is there a way of popping the front off to get to the screen and see what screen it is and how it's attached?  I can take mine apart and put a pic on if it helps to see if it's a simelar kind of screen and what wires are there.

Thanks Tom. I am going to take the rear case off to have a look and I have someone on another forum who will take a look at the photos I will do later. I have another Nitesite so I am not without an NV and if push came to shove, I will take back the NV my son in law has on long term loan. I know it is not difficult to get another screen cheap enough but first I need to establish if there is anything different on the screen compared to most on ebay and I will contact CRS tomorrow and have a chat with them as they know already which screen Nitesite use.

While messing around with it, I would love to link in a variable pot to adjust brightness of the screen without altering IR output strength which is what the R-Tec versions are. I have ordered a 16mm lens from ebay which will give a full screen view rather than just a circle of image as the standard 12mm lens does.

The screen has a surround to protect it I guess and held in place with four tiny Phillips type screws, these are tiny and need jewelers screwdrivers to unscrew them however they are in so tight that I couldn't move any of them so I am thinking they have also used super glue as well. I have no idea how to remove the surround other than drilling out the tiny screws or perhaps cutting through the screws between the joint of the main case and surround. ?

Drill the heads off, then once you remove the surround get the pliers or mole grips on & turn the rest out

Thanks Tom, very good of you.

I have dropped the unit in to an electronics guy in the next village who says he can sort it and possibly fit a variable pot as well to control screen brightness while in use. Fingers crossed.
