this sort of behaviour w  ithin certain ranks of lurchermen is certainly not any thing new in the world of the working lurcher, its been happening for years, but more so since the lurcher gained more popular with lurcher shows and the macho thing of lots of  the younger generation running every thing every where summer and winter, with no regard for land owners or livestock etc, then plastering there achievements all over face book, as for stating  its down to acertain element of people I would say a lot of it is down to the flash in the pan owners of lurchers who think they know all there is to know about the lurcher game but all they do is cause this uneccasary publicity for the genuine dedicated lurcher men, personally , as one well respected lurcherman  said to me the popularity of the lurcher will be the down fall of him, gone are the days of one for the pot, the old time poacher and traditional lurcher, the dogs that ran under the cover of darkness and a veil of secrecy, glad ive seen the best times of owning these wonderful dogs.

Good points there mate, I reckon the hunting act is as much to blame as owt else mind, made it so much harder for genuine conservation minded lurcher owners to go about their business in the right way

Like you i also am glad that ive seen the best days of working lurchers. Fact is the internet is going to be a major player in destroying what sport we have left, the bullshit brigade on facebook, and other sites, this one included unfortunately seem hell bent on self destruction. Most of these lurchermen? you know the type get a dog if it aint doing the job by 12 months, sell it on to the next clueless moron, no wonder the rehoming centres are full What the answer is i dont know but it does not bode well for the genuine folk.

I was in weybridge high street a month or so back, couple of women and a bloke all with lurchers collecting for a lurcher rescue/rehoming charity, apparently there’s a large number of lurchers get dumped locally, times are changing sadly,I think the 1980’s were the golden years for having a mouch with a dog.

Aye i also think we have seen the best years of hunting behind us , talking to a shooting guy last week and he said your brave having lurchers in this climate ?>

Yep if I’m ever in the position for another hunting dog it would either be a whippet or terrier/terrier cross.

There was plenty of clowns around long before Facebook that didn't give a sh1t about conservation and would prefer to ruin it on everyone when they weren't welcome around ,rather than see genuine lads progressing. It had fcuk all to to do with a mystical poacher taking one for the pot and more to do with them just been bad Cnuts destroying anything they could for bragging rights with inbred mates. A lot of it started with arguments in clubs and various groups who had lads that didn't get there own way and would do everything in their power to annihilate game rather than see another man get it.
