It depends on your dogs ability to cope with the cold mate. But I generally pile it in and let them decide whether to lay on top or bury into it ........

If it's got whippet blood best start at 3 foot deep normal lurchers a foot

The yellow paper is wax coated so stays dry even if the dogs go into their beds wet and being wax covered sticks less to the dogs ......

You can have any cross you want in them if the dog throws a jacket like the grey or whippet then there’s nothing you can do about it ........

Would you like to sleep on a rubber matt? I have a few times and wasn’t pleasant ha.  I certainly wouldn’t want to again so wouldn’t expect a hard working dog to either.

Socks some jukels  just  hotter  through breeding coat ain't just a bearing on this  it's how they evolved warm blood some stay warm sleeping on an ice burg.    Education for yas here  socks whippets were evolved to live amongst folk indoors easy keep clean hence evolved through the introduction of staffs to stay cool no need fa warm blood .live on little scraps etc I have jukels that sleep on top a there boxes on the open get covered in all weathers hardly type that are hot ,we seem to have lost or quickly losing lots of the quality traits in our home grown workers that produce our jukels ,week whippets hot desert hounds all need that influence of herding cur blood or good hardy working terrier. To give general hardiness ,fa me it's how they bred and what from that matters , this trait of being a hot dog his bred in em no sauce needed.lol.we us humans make em what they are ,nesh types hardy types that stay warm on basic water filled flesh.a good draught proof box they don't or should not need much els those that do abit heat provided should suffice wax paper gets every where shows the filth quickly and his expensive fa some .we making jukels softer and softer breed em right they fecking dogs .atbbill

Would you want to sleep on a hard mat with aching muscles? I know I’d rather be in a nice comfy soft warm bed.

Cheers bill but you don’t or couldn’t educate me ? .... now I know all about different dogs and their ability to withstand weather I have had lots of dogs that never flinched at the weather I even had a border terrier bitch that would find puddles to curl up in and sleep ... but the fact remains like all animals some no matter the breeding feel the cold more than others and need that extra help ... it really is that simple.

Oh and wax paper works out pennies a week at £9 a bale that lasts months .......
