Swollen neck

Has anyone had this with their ferrets before? This lump has literally appeared overnight on his neck. Doesn't seem to be affecting energy or appetite.

Thats what i thought with it coming up so fast. Do u know if it will go down or if ill need to get it drained?

Anti biotics and drained if it is an abcess i'd imagine.

I had a ferret that had a piece of bone stuck in her throat (didn’t realise at first it was a bone) but swelled up like that and it ended up bursting and the bone piece came out! Healed up fine and ferret was good as new! It was chicken bone she had in her.

Abscess mate, its vet job mate as other lads said. Just out of curiosity do you use Barley straw straight from a farm? I've had this myself when I lived on a farm and wondered if it was those hair like bits that grow off the grains, might get stuck in the throat when the ferrets chew the straw up. Several of my mates have had problems with them hairs on there dogs while shoot standing Barley, in there eyes etc.

Actually i bought some meadow hay from the shop just for ease the other day, ill be pissed off with myself if its that. Thanks all, vets tomorrow it is then

No mate, don't think it will be meadow hay, just wondered it it was barley from a farm. I've always had my suspicions about the grain hairs, what ever there real name is. The barley straw they sell for pets doesn't seem to have any head in it. Years ago while living on a farm I got straw for nothing but it wasn't clean. Had several ferret get obsesses back then, always thought there was a connection. Any way all the very best of luck with your ferret. Atb.

As mentioned could be abscess or it could be swollen lymph glands which are roughly the same position all be it a bit lower but you never know another option, obviously a vet will be able to tell better abscess they tend to stick a needle in and see if anything comes out. Ive got a 7 year old currently and his glands are up and down like a yoyo.

throat abcesses are very common can occur from a sharp bone etc to be sure get a antibiotic jab asp
