Guest Lord B
i have just got a spare gun a 12g side by side its a bit tatty and needs cleaning up. The gun has some surface rust on the barrels and the action also there is a slight bit of movement between the barrels and the block i think it is wear to the pin do i need a new pin fitted or are there any quick fix tips-thanks Without looking at the gun its not easy to answer your question about the movement between brls and action, need to realy know how bad it is. Usually refered to as Headache. There are things that can be done to make it feel tighter, but it really depends A/ how bad it is and B/ what gun it is. I have even known guys use a little spot of solder to tighten the area. My advise would be to pop it to your local gun shop / gun smith for advise, even if you just pick their brains then do a temp job yourself. It will be easier for them to advise once they have seen and felt it. As for the rust. A bloody decent gun oil (NOT WD40!) and very very fine wire wool (0000) and just gently rub the area, over time it will come away with little or no detriment to the metal work underneath. If the brls in particular are bad, again get a gunsmith to look at them, they may need re-blueing. If this is the case, get it done professionaly, the two brls not just spot bluing. But as long as both the rust and headache aren't too bad you should be able to sort them yourself. Hope that helps somewhat. Quote Link to post
The Sporting Agent 0
I agree with Lord B; as for gun oil I fing Leiga spray is the best allthough I'm sure there will be other who recomend something else. I personaly find it a good all round oil; but there are others out there. Bisley do a good basic oil as do Remington (Remoil) Quote Link to post

Guest Macnas
Legia oil is one of the best I've used, and indeed I'd never heard of it until I bought a cleaning kit for my brother, which contained an aerosol can of it. A silicon oil impregnated gun cloth is also a great bit of kit, it's perfect for giving a metal work a once over before taking it out, in lieu of a through cleaning and oiling when you are done using it. The rejointing job may be simple or decidedly un-simple. As Lord B recommends, bring it to a gunsmith and get a professional opinion. Quote Link to post
