yep  my understanding is you have to enter via  a travel company to bhutan   f knows why   any chance you could get an invitatioin letter from someone in bhutan  saying your staying with them

Limited tourism,i tried to enter once before via india,turned back at the border,going the easier route this time,bhutan travel firm,they meet you at the airport and guide you everywhere,bit north-korean'ish but needs must I suppose

mac  just read abit about flying into bhutan  with the weather conditions being fickle  aparently only daytime flights , and the recomendation is a flexible ticket incase flight cancelled  due to weather conditions    not telling you how to suck eggs pal  ,just a heads up

Yup,plan B is cross by land crossing at phuentsholing in west Bengal,only a three-four day bus ride away  Now you know why I got the 90 day nep visa,always flexible

Up to 7 days actually in the mountains, probably as part of a 3 week trip, including duck shooting and pig dogging. Budget is under 3k and I'll be using rifle. Maybe bow in the future but it's not like I'm a die hard bowhunter so I don't think I'll lose any fulfilment using a rifle.

None of this could have happened for me realistically without very kindly being put in touch with a keen local.

You can get a return flight for under 700 these days which is mad really and for those who are very confident NZ is very accommodating for self guiding. I'm not self guiding but sort of see that as a bit of a right of passage in the future maybe.

ive been  to both north and south island in nz   ,island is great bit like scotland on steroids .i came back accross the pacific instead of the f/e  stopped off in figi   and vanuatu  proper  south sea paradise ..   dont dream about it  get on a plane and go!!

Its being sorted mate and will be a hell of an experience. Has to be 2019 because I don't have enough holiday left this year. So much more I want to do, but real life constraints get in the way. It's funny, 2 to 3 yrs ago I had no urge to do this stuff.

IMHO all of these trips are doable on my current budget and while not particularly ambitious by many standards will stand as a set of family memories for myself, my wife, kids, and my dad.

So the question for the THL panel is what are your bucket list outdoor trips? Not necessarily a wish list with lottery money but achievable milestones that you would like to complete in your lifetime?

I've been luck enough to travel widely and experience lots of places and things. If I were to win the lottery there are a few things I would like to go and see/experience such as the northern lights and the cities of the Andes. But there are so many places that it is  imposible to see everything. Just  to think that our grandparents hardly ventured more than ten miles from their homes
