not sure if i miss read  that    but ,am i not entitled to it after paying 40odd years of ni?

Yes you definitely are. What I’m saying is it should be phased out entirely and let people sort their own retirement out. No issue of government squandering away our pension then or trying to justify raising the age because that generation hasn’t paid in long enoug. With of course a small safety net for those that weren’t able to sustain a private pension.

if I’m not mistaken my national insurance contributions aren’t for me, they’re to pay for the pensioners of today. It’s just a mess and frankly it’s be better off privatised. And yep, that means that I wouldn’t get a state pension even though I’ve paid in.

I think that is all reasonably fair. I can't think of an example in recent history of us doing something like this but we have certainly not been angels. I think it'll blow over if we stand strong and bold, if we don't it will encourage further escalation, globally.

I can't believe that Putin is totally unreasonable. There is a lot of money to be made from good trade relations and a lot of potential growth for his country.

Northern Ireland and people were murdered and jailed without trial. Fairly recent.

Chris if they are insisting the pot is emptey and we must live in Austerity and have cut back after cut back on all services and OAP's living like 3rd World beggars then the 14 billion per year every year and rising Foreign Aid bill is one way of releasing mega money year after year for OUR OWN ?

Agreed Max but the people that run these departments that can't manage on what they have got are asking for more money to continue with the status quo. That's not acceptable in my book.

I believe that foreign aid should be binned entirely. Nothing. Nada. That doesn't mean I think they should just give that money back to the agencies that squander it and then claim the pot is empty. The whole system needs an overhaul but simply taking it from one entity that pisses it away to give it to another entity that pisses it away doesn't solve anything other than deprive the British taxpayer of fourteen billion quid.

I guess it boils down to whether you trust the massive public sector to manage your money. Do you? Do you think they're spending it wisely? I answered no to both.
