Blackbriar 8,569
In a nutshell, I'm thinking of getting a small van (Berlingo-type), as I'm sick of the car getting knackered up........... It most definitely will NOT be used for ANY type of business purpose - just to cart the dogs around, chuck my fishing or shooting stuff in, as well as life's regular shopping trips and so on. A small van is simply more practical for my needs........... Could the panel please explain whether commercial insurance is compulsory on such vehicles, or can I have a regular car-type, domestic use policy on it ? What about bigger vans, like a Vivaro, for instance ? I don't need recommendations on what to buy, just the insurance end of things please. Cheers in advance, lads. blackmaggie 3,376
Same as Rio said I have a small combo van for dogs fishing etc on social domestic use they will ask if it's sign wrote your useage miles points etc but it's just like a car insurance but I got a grilling because I own commercial vehicles as well I think it goes up to transit size before it's classed as commercial

Blackbriar 8,569
Am I right in thinking that commercial is more expensive than 'regular' insurance ?
Shovel shy 4,033
Not sure about insurance but to tax my jeep private would be 1400 per year compared to 333 commercial

Not really mate I pay less than£400 a year for full commercial van insurance on my transit, the smaller vans seem to get away without it if they are what is known as a car derived van, IE estcourts, Astras and such like so if your just after a dog van get a car derived van on private insurance and you,ll be fine but don't be to scared if you have to have van insurance as its not that bad
