Kdogg82 4
Hi all Completely new to working dogs. Got a lurcher from the pound a few months ago and I'm interested in taking him to get some rabbits. Would like to do it all properly and above board. Anyone know the area and where I'm able to take him and maybe seek permission? County Durham area, Chester Le Street. 3 Quote Link to post

I don't know your area pal but wish you all the best nice looking dog best thing I can suggest if you know any farmers/land owners start by asking them otherwise knock a few doors be polite say you'll always ring or knock before you come on will only take rabbits and show them your dog doesn't bother there sheep etc and you'll shut all gates and not climb there fences etc and don't be turning up fully camaflauged up with a car full best going on your own atb 1 Quote Link to post

Kdogg82 4
Thanks for the replies. Yeah he's a big lad, always keen to get after the deer when I've seen them whilest on family walks. Will test him round sheep next time I get chance! 1 Quote Link to post
Attaboy 159
I was the same when I got my pup. Get out and about and chatting to other lurcher owners. A bloke in the village tool a shine to my pup and offered to take me out. He ended up getting 2 pups himself after years off running dogs. I can use his permissions now and have a bit myself. Good luck 1 Quote Link to post

ginger beard 4,652
Visit afew local lurcher shows.they can be a good spot to meet like minded people and try and get a night out with them. might be better off asking farmers for some ferreting first then lamping. 3 Quote Link to post
