Lurcherman332 75
Hi everyone I’m off ferreting to new spot in a couple of weeks plenty of rabbits open ground, now the question is do I bring my pup along? I’m in two minds I don’t want to feel like I’m rushing her but also feel like it will do her some good she has seen a few bolters out and about and she is steady with ferrets good with stock and basic obedience isn’t to bad! Also there will be two of us which allows me to focus on her a little more. What’s your thoughts and advice on this? Thanks in advance Quote Link to post
Aussie Whip 4,125
A lot will disagree but I take mine ferreting from about 3 months after its shots and all have turned out good dogs. They grab plenty in the nets to keep them keen till old enough to catch bolters.I only use mine for ferreting and daytime rabbits and have always been hunting bred dogs apart from my new whippet pup. 1 Quote Link to post
Lurcherman332 75
Yeah I can’t see the harm really think it will be a good learning curve for her few times out the penny should drop Quote Link to post
johnrussell84 2,832
I think u answered ur own question mate, u gave urself more pros than cons to having her. Pending her age don’t let her chase if she ain’t old enough obviously, but a pup out and about will learn more than a pup stuck at home 1 Quote Link to post

johnrussell84 2,832
Mines will be out and about with me from around 12 weeks mate when am ferreting etc, see stock often have a bond when they’re waiting, and the everyday foundations folk miss out on, going thru burns puddles thru gates fences learning independence etc, a solid foundation is priceless mate 2 Quote Link to post
Sirblessed 2,511
This is my latest pup now 7 mths old, he is now as keen as any dog Ive owned . I take mine out from about three months too, every pup is different so their management can be too, just try to not let them over do it, and for the first 12 months I use the whippet type sparingly. 3 Quote Link to post
Pirate 9000 676
There is one thing for sure pups learn nothing sitting in a kennels all day, just taking them along for the experience is priceless, I would never let young pup run rabbits, but watching listening taking in what's going on all good foundation for a future worker. 2 Quote Link to post
