goodonya darren ignore these arrogant f435wits ask as many questions you want some of the decent folk on this site will be glad to help a youngster out half these blokes forget they had to learn and become over night experts and there is no prob keeping a lone ferret as long as you are prepared to spend time with it

no matter what folk on here say your doing the right thing by asking questions, no matter how daft they seem to those with more experiance. we all start somwhere and that includes making mistakes, no ones perfect. get a read of a few books, watch a few dvds then teach yourself whats needed and bin the stuff that doesnt work for you, its the way most folk learn in this day and age of not having someone to show them.

you have a few months till the breeding season so you have time to educate yourself

How right is that! I learned nearly all my ferret info on here by asking questions and I read a few good books too  Ive also made a few great mates and have been ferreting with them this season. Ive got my own permission through persistence and a lot of effort. We all have to start somewhere so good luck and keep us all informed. :D

yeh thanks to those who realise im asking the questions as im learning myself, good to see not everyone on the forum has there heads up there bums ;) yeh it may seem stupid asking how to get a ferret down a hole but everybody starts somewhere??no need for sarky comments stubby,i asked a question because i didnt know the answer, thats how you got to be the best on the subject ;) got a book coming to me from sombody on the site, and been looking it up on the net,so should give me an insight.also a boy i know who lives up the road,i went to see him earlier so we are going out somday in the week with his ferrets and hes going to teach me a bit.

the reason for being sarky mate;

read the first reply to your post, the poster says "get a pair"

you totally dis-regaurd his advice and rather than coming back with the question "why"

you simply state again " I only want one"

that was my reason to post as I did, rather than offer advice, as it seemed advice was already falling on deaf ears, now a few more experienced keepers have vioced to keeping singles, but then they aint you are they...

single dogs, fine, they get to be with there owner daily,

single ferret stuck in a cage at bottom of garden/yard, needs more than a glance as you walk past and chuck it some food, only for someone to post a few months later a question saying, why's my fert keep biting me

too many people see ferrets as a CHEAP way into hunting there value of £5 to £15 should'ent make it any less of a reason not to read up on it first, then prehaps it would'ent look like they had their head up there bums, as you put it

and remember, feed plenty of carrots

If i was starting out,

Find someone thats is close to you that has ferrets. Pick there Brain, If you can't find someone. Visit the local ferret resue, Pick there brain. Read a couple of books to fill in the gaps, Understand the sex bit, Make a house to acommidate more than one ferret because they like to be together most of the time.

Then and only then Get some ferrets.

Regards Roger.

Get some kits and handle them often and then the rest is a piece of p**S.

They are not cheap they cost to time and money my ferrets have to earn there living at the end of they day.

Darren,

As said by most of the others, do you your background reading, as seems that you are attempting to do. I am sure nothing negative was meant by some comments. Bare in mind that a large majority of the guys on here have been involved with all things country for many years with alot of years experience, and I for one often forget what it was like starting out.. and asking what other thought were lame questions !! Also try to get out with a local ferreter to gain the experience of handling and working ferrets.

IMO I think if possible you'd be better to keep two ferrets instead of one, but as I said thats just my opinion.

Well said mole catcher, some people on here cant wait for someone who is just getting into the sport to ask a question so they can take the p**s. These people should be encouraged and good advice should be given in a constructive manner.

i agree with evryone who has been positive in there replys, ask any question you want no matter how daft or obvious the answer may be, thats the fun of learning, let them laugh, i aint got no ego to fuel, i just want the answer.

regarding only haveing one ferret, i have an albino jill who is 7 now, she lives by herself, she will not mix however many times ive tried, always ends in fighting or she sulks, she is a good worker, never bites, and i would truast her with anybody, an absolute jem, but i do agree it costs no more to keep 2 than 1.
