Ted Newgent 4,896
so took the morning off from moose hunting got blind drunk drunk watching the autumn rugby games, mate fckn calls me 9am saying he has plugged a cow moose and its dead in a swamp with its calf. so i leggit down there,40min drive. we walked through the swamp and the cow is still alive and the calf is by her side. calf stands up,so she gets the head shot.cow tries to get up and she gets the head shot. both give out their death moan which is weird, even a calf not leaving its mum is a bit weird also, quite sad really. we walk back to get the quad to haul them out,i pull the calf out easy but momma aint goin anywhere. we gut her on the spot and then the quad pulls her out. get mum on me mates trailer,he has a winch, then we drag mine on me quad trailer. when i stick my knife thru the ear to stick the 'head tag',damn knife goes right thru into my index knuckle slicing it nicely. 3 stitches later. got moose hanging in garage with propane heater trying to keep the temperature fairly normally as its -18c outside. moose over and done with, now its deer season, started nov2nd in forestry but nov 15th on the farmland Edited November 13, 2018 by Ted Newgent 1 1

To be honest we didnt tag ours til we got them out of the swamp and on the trailers we broke the law. But if we would of tagged them and lost the tag hauling them out we would of been in schitt the laws are a nightmare at times
Ted Newgent 4,896
after keeping the garage warm over the past few days, last night i decided to cut n wrap the moose. wasnt a huge one by any means. 17lbs of steaks 40lbs of roasts 35lbs of meat from front shoulders and trim going to a butchers for him to make pepperoni stick and honey/garlic sausage. legs, carcass and scrappy bits have just been picked up by a coyote trapper to be used as bait. just got to dump the head and pelt in a skip. deer season now,let be having some of this

Ted Newgent 4,896
went back down sunday bad mistake somewhat jaded from the night before alcohol comsumption. -16c outside with windchill -22c.froze me nut sack off, felt pretty ill sunday night. i got down there 12.30pm and tapped out 4pm.just seen does n fawns. just back from the forestry.the sparky in work hasnt hunted.so i offered to take him. boss let us go early, got to blind 2pm. -9c windchill -15c. big storm forecasted for tonight and tomorrow. bait has been hammered.looking promising. ran thru the do's and donts.bullet placement etc etc 4.15pm a doe starts snorting behind the trees,i can see her with two fawns. she fcks us around, buggers off then bam 10 mins later just trolls right into the bait. she is head on and feeding.the fawns are blocking the shot. i get the sparky to poke the muzzle out of the blind, ready.he just rustles his jacket, the doe does a runner then stops turns broadside i said shoot her, boom, doe runs off. i said to the spark how did you miss,he says she is down. OMG he plugged a fawn. bullet placement perfect just behind the shoulder but on the wrong deer. showed him the 2min gutting job and skinning it was easier than plugging me socks off. he enjoyed the experience and was really happy he has come home with 'some' meat lol broken his virginity,i knwo it could of been a lot worse and he doesnt need a bad experience first time out 2
