i no i only paid £800 for my latest transit, mad world aint it, good luck with your search, when i had my tipper i used to get one or two decent named bikes chucked on for scrap each year i gave a few to bike projects in bristol they would refurb them and sell them cheaply to people that needed one, have a google search in your area you may have one local to you that might be able to help

for the last few weeks im watching the sales forums locally,im trying to get a robust aluminium fram if possible 18 to 21 gears  that can do medium to roughish woodland paths plus roads ,,but most general cycling with dogs in toe

All them £300/£500 bikes wont last a year using them for through the woods a couple of times a week.Even if they say shimano gears etc it will be the bottom of the range shimano stuff churned out for the budget market bikes. Most decent mountain bikes only have 9 or 11 gears these days 1st will still be like 1st always was and 11th will be the same as top gear was there is just less unnecessary gears in between so all the gears are just all the front cogs saving weight saving having 2 levers to mess about with and less stuff to go wrong.

Use your local independent bike shop if there is one! If so , despite the competition from chain stores, internet, Halfords etc, if they're still going they must be doing something right! Use it or lose it as they say.

Indy bike shops run by enthusiasts for enthusiasts, way to go boys, for the sake of a few quid you'll get proper advice and hopefully great service.

No I have no involvement in any bike shops, I do my own repairs and servicing but if I wanted a new part or bike, that's where I go.

Cheers, D.

As an aside, setting up your bike to maximise control/ pedal effiency/comfort etc is important to get the maximum benefits from cycling.

Arse low down and knees up is not the way to go, I see so many hire bikes round here with many soon to be sore people.

Cheers, D.
