? I've been lucky,...I've had several dream jobs,...unbelievably diverse,  but all, equally exciting, in their own different ways...? I'm an old pensioner now and occasionally, (very occasionally

We are all small cogs in a big machine mate, sounds like you have your balance right and that’s worth it’s weight on its own

It took me 15 years to work my way up to small cog but I'm happy with it. Short of some unrealistic lottery win type scenario I'm quite happy to be woken by the birds and mooch around with the dogs. I'm sat here on my laptop. I've got a giant mug of tea and I'm watching the hummingbirds on the feeders. It's just ticked over to 0800 and I'm set for the day! I'm not back in work until Wednesday morning!

About 6 months ago a vacancy appeared in our county fish and game for predator management. I applied for it but was massively under qualified. Wasn't even selected for an interview. I've since learned that if I'd named dropped a couple of my neighbours I'd have at least got that far. Lesson learned. I'm quite happy to do what I do but this vacancy was enough for me to reconsider. It was less money but I'm a big believer in 'Man Cannot Live On Bread Alone.' I'd have quite happily taken a pay cut for the new office!

I'm just a small cog in a big machine. If I left tomorrow there's no shortage of warm bodies to fill the role. The main reason I stick with my job is the perks more than the hourly compensation. I could transfer to any branch in the union for more money but I'd be giving up the country life for it. I work 15-hour shifts but I have 3-4 day weekends every week. I've managed our local branch for several years and now that corporate is happy with how I run daily operations my boss has to find an excuse to check in on us. I earn enough money to save and it's relatively hassle-free, plus I enjoy doing it. I'd need something to top that in order to move on but I'll keep checking the vacancies at Fish & Game just to be sure!

I didn’t even get that far mate, under qualified ! Lol

Heres a strange thing, My sons, my own and my dad’s birth certificate all give the same occupation for the Father.....totally unknown to me until I happened to be looking through all those documents one day.........there’s never any escape from that double helix, you just do different things in the same way.

It's not for everyone. We have a few lads that want their evenings and aren't willing to give up 3 evenings for the sake of 4 full days off!

It took a bit of getting used to but we're in a job and knock kind of environment too. Everything is all go all the time and I've not had a day drag on me in 10 years.

The thing is, mate, that you didn't like your situation so you took steps to change your situation. That's what defines the man, IMHO. You weren't happy with the hand you were dealt and you took all of your personal circumstances and cashed in for the pursuit of the better. Like me, you've never been gifted anything and you've struggled for all that you have. You stick to your principles and you'll stand your corner and equally admit when you're wrong.

For all the similarities and differences we have, for what it's worth I respect that.

I can’t stand all these “self made men” types that want to tell everyone how well they have done.......your ordinary common or garden lad is enough of a proper chap to realise that you put in a bit graft and have a bit of luck, none of it should happen so just enjoy and be honest enough to call it what it is.

Lifes a strange old thing, you can go down a damn sight quicker than you went up and if you have spent the whole time being a prick and not conducting yourself right then nobody is throwing you a bone, they will just enjoy watching you drown.

I hear ya, mate and I'm also under no illusion that it could go under far more easily than it took to get here in the first place. Another argument for living within your means and saving for a rainy day but in serious danger of taking the thread off topic.

Dream job? Err astronaut?

I'm sure there are rich people who got rich by selling tickets to their seminars about how to get rich!

Don't get me wrong, there are some things and ways in life that are just toxic and so long as you carry on that way you won't achieve shit. They are lessons worth knowing and reflecting on I think. But listening to these charismatic type trendy millionaires giving a monologue pep talk for a 60 second youtube seminar makes me want to gag. "Just f**k off ya wanker!"

The only thing I could add to that would be bush pilot although those fish and game predator jobs contain flying roles. Utah monitor elk herds by air and Renner would have a helicopter and small plane license for that.

While I don't necessarily have my dream job I do at least have one I like doing. I'm out and about. I get to meet people. Although I'm reaching the point where I'm too old to be running up flights of stairs wearing body armour!

What do you do chris jones.?
