Guest vin
As much as I like a good 1st cross dog... As you generally know what your getting and what to expect, and I've seen a few. I like Buck... I love Bryn... Either of these 2 over a Grew or coursing dog would still produce uncertainties in type, size, coat etc... I would much prefer a pup from the 2nd generation of the offspring etc. .... Buck or Bryn's pup ...then put back to a similar type worker etc. I myself would still prefer a Worker to Worker bred from Bitza Lurchers with not too much of any one particular breed, Just good strong well bred working dogs of a few generations with the history of parents and grandparents flowing through them. One day we will all end up where we started... Collie x Greyhound X Deerhound x Greyhound. . . . . . . It worked because we made it work. Quote Link to post
two crows 3,342
back when I started a long long time ago ,saluki was introduced direct to peoples existing lurchers to improve coursing ability, but little did they know just how important these crosses would become in the creation of what we take for granted, todays coursing dogs have had generations of men breading best to best to achieve this, these dogs have such a deapth of breading behind them its unreel, here is an old pic from the early days the bigger bitch is fly beddlington lurcher cross saluki, this bitch was an awesome hare killer and a decent knock about dog the smaller bitch is off her to a non ped whippet very fast but clever with it. pic about 1973/4 ish. , Edited May 22, 2018 by two crows 11 Quote Link to post

I would have thought that the best use for Buck would be to use him as a stud back to Pure Shepherds and Alsatians etc... to straighten up all their genetic flaws. . . . He could certainly add what's lacking in a large percentage of the ones we see these days. Quote Link to post
stormyboy 1,352
A lot of breeding results from studs depend on how homozygous they are ie:do they stamp their type on their offspring. The only way to find out is to try it! Quote Link to post

Black neck 16,003
These forums are good really in that you get to chat to folk that know a lot about the dog's and even write books from experience I might write one called the wazaks guide to hunting with my experience of wandering about aimlessly and falling over things it would be a hit 2 Quote Link to post
Black neck 16,003
Might struggle with the hunting part but spose I could just go into beer tent mode and tell outrageous lies 2 Quote Link to post

Maybe in a few years time,if you want another dog ,a dog like Brynn might suit you,he seems a little less full on and smaller and easier to handle. Quote Link to post

Aussie Whip 4,101
Your dog Buck over a bully/grey would make good pig dogs, for other game I'd put him over a straight grey or grew. Quote Link to post
