Blackbriar 8,569
.........Lancaster bomber crews took off from Lincolnshire, on a top secret mission over Germany, known as Operation Chastise. All of those involved earned their place in history, including the 52 who didn't come home. The men were flying from 617 Squadron.............The Dambusters. https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/960073/dambusters-flypast-2018-peak-district-derbyshire-raf-617-squadron-world-war-2 10
KES2 171
Saw an interview with Johnny Johnson a bomb-aimer in the raid. Asked if he was a 'hero' he was emphatic that he was not he was just one of the lucky ones. ! "we were just doing a job". Given todays culture of celebrity and self -proclamation of 'amazing - epic-stunning-incredible', how refreshing to hear someone play down his contribution. I was impressed, again, by these men - 52 of whom did not return from this raid.

You're in Linc's. Herc's, AWACS, Tornadoes awash. Probably waiting to land at Waddington which is the UKs ISTAR base.
