just read that I knew most of it, but not the bit about blood vessels, my coursing bred bitch often on cold mornings has her hair stood up, on real cold whet days when I see folk walking their dogs, I always say it would rather have its nose up its ars lol.

First cold snap here in nsw today, my 16 year old pitbull/ mastiff was following me around the farm,heard a weird noise and looked down, the old mutts teeth or whats left of them were chattering, first time I've seen a dog do that.Have to get his coat out.

Heat exchange in the pads is interesting, although I find over heating to be the biggest issue in the UK, it would be interesting to look at different breeds as to any variations.

Dogs sweat through their pads the same as panting but the northern breeds with heavily haired feet sweat much less through their pads.
