I haven't read the whole of this thread but ,like Gnipper, I use bravecto. It's expensive but one treatment kills fleas for at least 3 months and it's the best against ticks and some of the high moorland and forest areas here are infested with ticks. The disgusting feckers even get on me if I don't keep me pants tucked in me socks.

They definately seem worse where there's sheep or sheep and deer. The deer seem to carry a lot if they are on sheep country but often less if there's only deer. I know a few places with a few deer and no sheep and you'de hardly ever pick up any ticks.

Maybe three four yrs back I was fa help on a bull xs demedectic rife over it the owner could clear itor afford to have extensive vetenary Meds ,I put it on a course of synulux five days then proceeded to attack the mange ,ivomectin WA given every three days at first then seven till I got her to fourteen then monthly by six mths the bitch was clear she was put on a flesh and bone diet and she has stayed clear twice yearly jivomectin the looks great ,all da the cost of thirty quid bottle ivomectin and some cattle synulux broad based antibiotics she was worth it she come a good single bitch on heavy pests.

Bill did you ever have any experience of ivermectin causing reduced litters? It was mentioned on here a few years ago by fatman I think and it got me thinking back to when I used to use it myself, i covered a bitch and got two good ties but she only produced one pup a few years later when I wasn’t using ivermectin she was covered again and produced eight, might have just been coincidence but I found it interesting.

I know ther ta be talk some yrs ago of reduced fertility ,but when breeding birds fa  a long long time I used ivomectin each spring prior ta breeding season took the chance got full clutches some even seven egg clutches ,I believed this all the parasites the ivomectin cut down enhanced health and vigour ,I bred two nests of eleven lurchers she was ivomectin twice annually ,I found small litters can at times be down to infection in the bitch ,nothing to show her off ill health bug I find a three day course broad spectrum antibiotic with the onset of season can help and keep things in check.and the fertility levels how they should be.
