Dull Day

We had planned a day out ferreting today after a few days doing nothing but eating and drinking entertaining friends and relatives - so we were looking forward to it. But this morning was just horrible weather, wind and rain and really dark :( We decided to set off in any case, nothing lost if it got too bad and we were rained off.

Well it was even windier up in the hills and dark as night in the woods, but we had a go

We'd only been in the woods a few minutes when a ferret was put to ground and we had a rabbit in the bag -great start - if only it carried on

Te pace slowed down after that, in fact it just about ground to a halt, the wind and the trees made it difficult to hear, difficult for the dogs to mark and the light wasnt good at all. We made our way along to the next set of woods

and decided to give it a miss  they run through diffiicult conditions but this was just too much

out into the open we had a walk on the tops, in the bracken and the heather, but nothing was about today in that weather, on the way back down the dogs marked a small burrow so we put the ferret in

there was a rabbit in but it didnt bolt, the ferret held it just at the entrance of the burrow, but another for the bag, a shame the dogs didnt get to run out in the open, but theres always another day.

we stopped for a bite to eat, right in front of us were a couple of pheasants and a chaffinch feeding

We've had much better days, but it was still nice to be back out :)
