I was thinking a good thick mulch would hold back the weeds till the Beech where in full leaf and choked out the weeds themselfs ???

Yes use woodchip on smaller stretches of hedges but this is massive and would cost loads to do spraying much Cheeper

What about fresh horse manure it's free and would do the job of mulch plus would feed the hedge when breaking down

Yeah really good stuff what also cheap and really good is the green waste from the councils when it's composted down but tend to promote weed groth as so strong but good for soil condition

Wouldn’t touch council composted stuff , its full of dog shite . A company actually bags it and sells it as organic compost ...

It's all the tree waste and garden waste from the council a separate firm process I've seen the yard  quite a good operation but if your saying it's no good I trust you
