As an aside,...I've never been overly keen on the genuine first cross twixt  Whippet/Collie to produce a lurcher.

For hedgerow work, I've always favored a mix that contains the Collie, Whippet, and Greyhound, as opposed to a straight FX.

When I've bred these types closely, they usually seemed to level out fairly evenly...

Obviously, to achieve a starting point the FX is necessary,..but personally, I like to quickly move on and hopefully improve on that initial hybridization. at the earliest opportunity.  No set rules for lurchers...and I suppose, it all depends on what a man wants,...I guess we are all different...

Nice sort of thing Troyboy...and a perfect visual example of the type,...but as I say,... I prefer a lot more Sheepdog influence in my rabbiting curs.

 Possibly not to everyone's taste,.I just like them to have that quicksilver basic obedience and amazing collie sagacity...

I don't really need, out and out speed,..in fact, I find it a wee bit dangerous, when hunting in woodland, embankments, factory wastelands, etc..

Just enough, will suffice, eh...

Don't really know the exact mathematical percentages,..probably not even as much as yours...

I have found,..over the years, that Mother Nature doesn't really abide by the rules of percentages, but seems to do her own thing.

What I look for,  when I breed a litter comprised of  Whippet, Sheepdog, Greyhound genes, is an individual whelp that exhibits the qualities I desire. 

Sometimes I win, other times I lose,..but I am getting much better at observing such things...

I'll get it right someday...

I like both breeds,..in fact, considering how few rabbits I actually catch with my wee, hedge busters, a purebred Herder would probably suit my needs.
