THE STIFFMEISTER 16,184
Just to touch on Gerrard , the absolute tragedy of Steven Gerrard in football terms is the two seasons Liverpool invested in him and got real firepower for him to feed in Torres then Suarez , they were so nearly there. If they’d put 50 60 mill in the table between that time for benzema or the like , they may have got over the line the Liverpool bank is Gerrards legacy what price a title ? Astanley 11,580
Strange thing opinions about players ,two players I thought we're awful ,I absolutely never rated them were Phil Neal and Ronnie Whelan ,I argued til I was blue in the face with anyone and everyone that they were crap ,I tried to see what I was missing ,I went to games and just watched them ,and was convinced more than ever they were fourth division standard ,but they were rated by st Bob and international managers ,won a few medals and caps between them ,so in the end I reached the conclusion that I know fk all about football ,it was a harsh lesson to learn

Astanley 11,580
Thought Stevie Nichol was great ,Alan Kennedy was a tryer ,(saved his best for European cup finals ) Ray Kennedy was another I wasn't that impressed with ,but Bob Paisly said he had more clubs trying to buy him than any other player he managed ,so more proof I know nothing .
dytkos 17,819
Think the poll was that John Barnes was Pools favourite player? Might be wrong though? Cheers, D.

Some players to me seem really ordinary, yet clubs are willing to pay big bucks for them. Two come to mind immediately..Fellaini and Phil Neville.

I tried really hard with Whelan tbh ,I got a bit weird about it ,looked really hard for the positives ,had long conversations with knowledgeable people who tried to convince me he was decent ,, I just couldn't see it ,. I'm vain enough to still have opinions by I am also aware that they could be a load of shite .

The only thing Fellaini brings to the table for me are horrible elbows, yet Mourhino is going to offer him a new contract. Others I know compare him to Keane. I can't see it at all. Phil Neville was just a runner. I can't think of anything he did particularly well. But he seems blessed. Got himself into the England team, a lucrative deal at Everton and got the England women's manager's job on a plate. They didn't even interview other candidates for the England job. Weird.
jukel123 8,663
Just remembered a joke about Phil Neville. The Man U first team noticed that Fergie was clocking off an hour early from training. "f**k it", they said, if it's good enough for him. it's good enough for us. So they all clocked off. Phil Neville drives home and sees Fergie's car outside his house. He sneaks a look in the windows and Fergie and Phil's wife are making love. Next day, Fergie clocks off early again and the lads follow suit. Phil Neville however carries on training. "What's up with you, ya scab" they say. "f**k that!" says Phil. "Fergie nearly caught me yesterday."
THE STIFFMEISTER 16,184
I think the Neville’s offer a lot more as football people than just players to be honest . another good example of a football man imho is Paul Simpson , the England youth coach . A man that knows the game inside out
